The first quarter-finals of the Champions League took place this Tuesday, April 9. The spectacle was there with Real Madrid-Manchester City (3-3) and Arsenal-Bayern Munich (2-2). To all those involved in this evening, thank you for this pleasure.
This Tuesday, April 9, the Santiago Bernabeu once again put on its ceremonial clothes for a new Champions League evening. In the quarter-final first leg, the Merengue hosted Manchester City in the clash between the last two winners of the competition. We therefore inevitably expected a bitter fight between two teams who have crossed swords during the last two seasons, in the semi-final, with a victory for each. And the least we can say is that we were not disappointed.
In this exceptional duel, a stroke of genius from Bernardo Silva in the 2nd minute put Manchester City in front. But, as is often the case, Real Madrid reversed the situation in two minutes thanks to Camavinga (12th ) and Rodrygo (14th ) . The Madrilenians took the lead at the break in this clash of the titans.
In the second half, it was Manchester City’s turn to make a comeback. Phil Foden clears Lunin’s top corner (66th ) , then Gvardiol (70th ) gives the reigning champions the lead. But Real Madrid is not a team to give up. Federico Valverde, served by Vinicius, offers a superb volley and puts the teams back on level terms (3-3, 79th ) . The two teams part with this score of 3-3. See you on Wednesday April 17 for the return to England.
Arsenal-Bayern, another prolific clash
Arsenal remained on 3 defeats in a row at 5-1 against Bayern. For this quarter-final first leg, the Gunners are quickly in orbit thanks to their nugget Bukayo Saka (12th ) . However, the Munich residents are catching up thanks to Gnabry (12th ) and Harry Kane (32nd , sp).
In the second half, Arsenal attacked the Bavarian goal to equalize. And it was done in the 76th minute thanks to Leandro Trossard. There will be no other goal in this meeting. This first evening of the quarter-finals will have provided an lesson: all teams can qualify between Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal and Bayern Munich. Looking forward to the second evening of this Wednesday!
