The CAF interclub competitions will begin on August 16.


The Confederation of African Football published important information this Monday, June 3, regarding the 2024/2025 interclub season. The number of clubs per participating association has been confirmed. At the same time, the dates of the two competitions, the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup, have been specified.

The 2024/2025 season of CAF interclub competitions will begin with the preliminary round scheduled for August 16-18, 2024. The group stages are scheduled between October and December 2024. The knockout stages and final of both competitions will take place between March and May 2025.

CAF has confirmed that the 12 highest ranked member associations according to the CAF index will be able to enter two clubs in the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

The 12 highest ranked national federations are South Africa, Algeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, DR Congo, Sudan, Tunisia and Tanzania.

The registration period for member associations is now open. Member associations can register their qualified clubs on the CAF Competition Management System (CMS).

The four (4) player registration windows


  • July 1 – July 20, 2024: Registration of players participating in the first preliminary round
  • July 21 – August 31, 2024: Registration of players participating in the second preliminary round
  • 01 – 30 September 2024: Registration of players participating in the group stages
  • 01 – January 31, 2025: Registration of seven (7) additional players, including four (4) on the sidelines.

The format of the competition


The second additional preliminary round of the Confederation Cup remains canceled. Consequently, teams eliminated in the second round of the CAF Champions League will no longer be transferred to the Confederation Cup.

Clubs that qualify for the second preliminary round of the Confederation Cup will advance directly to the group stage of the competition.
