CAN 2023: Mauritius drafted, Sao Tome and Principe out
The selection of Mauritius will be at CAN 2023.
The selection of Mauritius will finally participate in the qualifications for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire . The islanders had however been eliminated in the preliminary round by Sao Tome and Principe (0-1, 3-3) and the two matches played in Saint-Pierre on March 24 and 27.
But in the first match, Sao Tome fielded Praia Cruz defender Edley Dos Anjos despite not respecting the anti-Covid protocol. The Mauritian federation had seized the CAF, which agreed with it by granting it the victory (3-0) for the first leg and by inflicting a fine of 9600 euros on the Sao Tome federation.
The Mauritians therefore join Group A, along with Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau.
